Fungalia

“Fungalia” is the project, in which I explore the mycelium – the usually hidden underground “nervous system” of fungi – as the metaphorical landscape of an eco-sustainable future.
During my research, I discovered that mycelium possesses remarkable properties to “heal” old/damaged materials and bond cellulose-based particles into a new robust velvety-white medium.

“Fungalia” showcases the surface of 10 kg of Ganoderma Lucidum mycelium, which I grew under my bed, and further photographed in a macro mode as if it was a planet’s aerial view.

I see mycelium as a unique living organism that could help us with a solution for sustainable material processing, and reshaping production and consumption paradigms. Therefore for me “Fungalia” symbolizes the metaphorical landscape of an eco-sustainable future.
